Risk & Disclosures

SGA Trader is market-analysis and strategy-automation software published by Smart Growth Assets Inc. d/b/a SGA Trader. Our algorithms are designed to help you analyse markets and automate rules you choose — they are not financial advice. We are not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer, do not hold customer funds, and provide the same impersonal content to all subscribers. Trading involves substantial risk of loss. Past performance, actual or simulated, is not indicative of future results.
Risk of loss
Trading stocks and ETFs involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone. You can lose some or all of the money you trade. Automated strategies can lose money for extended periods, and software, data feeds, internet connections and brokers can fail. Only trade money you can afford to lose.
Publisher, not adviser
The service is impersonal, general-circulation software and market analysis. Smart Growth Assets Inc. is not a registered investment adviser, commodity trading advisor, or broker-dealer, and nothing provided is a recommendation tailored to your circumstances. You decide whether to trade and you place or authorise your own orders in your own brokerage account. Refunds and cancellation: see https://sgatrader.com/refunds.
How performance is labelled
Every performance figure on our sites carries exactly one of three labels. We never blend sources into a single number.
- BACKTEST (hypothetical) — the strategy’s rules applied to historical data. No trades were placed.
- PAPER (simulated fills) — signals executed in a simulated or paper account in real time. No real money was at risk, and fills may differ from what a real order would have received.
- LIVE — SGA's own account, not yours — realised results from Smart Growth Assets Inc.’s own brokerage account trading its own capital. They are not the results of any customer account, and your results will differ.
HYPOTHETICAL OR SIMULATED PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE CERTAIN LIMITATIONS. UNLIKE AN ACTUAL PERFORMANCE RECORD, SIMULATED RESULTS DO NOT REPRESENT ACTUAL TRADING. ALSO, SINCE THE TRADES HAVE NOT BEEN EXECUTED, THE RESULTS MAY HAVE UNDER-OR-OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE IMPACT, IF ANY, OF CERTAIN MARKET FACTORS, SUCH AS LACK OF LIQUIDITY. SIMULATED TRADING PROGRAMS IN GENERAL ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE DESIGNED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFIT OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN.
No custody
We never hold customer funds or securities. Automation software runs on a server in the customer’s own cloud account, using the customer’s own broker API keys entered on that server. We do not have those keys and cannot move money.
14-day paper period
As a safety control, newly installed automation runs in paper (simulated) mode for at least 14 days before it will accept live trading. This is enforced by the software itself. It lets you see how the rules you chose behave on your own setup before any real order is placed. It does not reduce the risk of live trading once enabled.
Alerts
Alerts are automated output of our software, sent to all subscribers of a plan at the same time. They are informational only and are not a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
